I purchased a new Canvas Water Bucket while at the Eastern and would like to know whats the best way to treat it before using it? :hmm:

Would melted bee's wax work? Or Boiled Linseed Oil applies and left to dry?

Mostly you just let it soak in water till the threads expand to hold water. If you use it for drinking water  you do not want an oily water to taste. If for putting out fires, it doesn't matter as long as it holds water. :redthumb:

I prefer a good old copper pale or tin bucket. No wood or canvas to soak and it is always ready to hold water. :imo:

I agree with Tipis. The way we use our canvas bucket is that we fetch our camp water with it and fill a tin bucket back at camp. We also make a second trip to keep water in the canvas buck all day. In the morning's it is usually half empty, or half full. Depends on how you look at things like that. :hmm:

If you're gonna use it for drinking or cooking water and use linseed oil to treat it, then make damsure you're camp is near the privvy. Works better, faster, and for a longer time than Castor oil.

 Just please don't ask how I know this.
