I'm assuming you mean single shot and not a revolver? No and yes to your guestions. I load it just like I would the rifle except with a reduced charge

The title of the thread is "cap & ball" so i assume that's what the OP is asking about. Yes, I use a lubed felt wad under the ball. Less messy & more effective than greasing the cylinder chambers.

Does anyone use wads or lubes in their pistols?

I use lubed felt wads and find they keep the bore cleaner than it would be in their absence. With wool felt (see Duro Felt) and a sharp arch punch, it's not to difficult to "roll your own" and then soak them in melted beeswax and white Crisco or vegetable oil.

I have and do use both. At different times. I like the lubed felt wads better because they are less messy. But it seems to be when putting lube in front of the projectile it keeps the fowling softer for easier clean up.

Have and don't. Never noticed any difference in accuracy or fouling issues.

I was wondering that. I haven’t tried lube over ball to compare yet. Always used wads.

Definitely like the lubed felt wads under the ball. I make my own and use them in black powder cartridges, as well. It's been well over 30 years since I tried lube over the cylinder mouths and don't recall any advantage over the wads. My cleaning routine stays the same.

I used wads when i first started shooting c&b revolvers. Now i just prefer to grease the cylinder with my home made possum grease! Either way works great but i do feel greasing the cylinder helps season the bore.

So I want to know what you did with the possum you cooked the grease out of.
