Yes indeed, that's a cap post. I install them all the time. They are a pain in the backside on the pocket models however they serve 2 functions, first is to keep cap fragments out of the innards and second is to keep the hammer from being blown back to the half cock notch.
 
The neatest cap jam fixer thingy I ever saw was a hardened steel pin (probably a drill shank) inserted vertically in the frame right behind the capped nipple. A slot was cut into the striking face of the hammer to clear the vertical pin as it contacts the cap. The hammer face on each side of the slot busted the cap and the vertical pin kept the cap from blasting down into the innards..............Bob
