Trying to find a capper that fits the cylinder on a Pedersoli Custom Remington 1858 revolver. I have tried regular cappers for revolvers but they are just a tad to wide to fit all the way down on the nipple. Thanks

I have been told that the Ted Cash inline capper works with Remingtons and is the only one that will. If you don't shoot in competition you can open the cutouts around the nipples some to give clearance for a capper. Some associations like the N-SSA will not allow this modification so check first. Personally I shot in competition for 30 years with Rogers & Spencer, Remington, Spiller & Burr & Colt revolvers and found that capping with my fingers was very easy and allowed me to feel that the cap was a good snug fit.

'morning,

The Ted Cash one that TotW sells (http://www.trackofthewolf.com/Categories/PartDetail.aspx/1207/1/CAPPER-P) works with my Remingtons. For use with my .36 Colts, I had to grind down the brass top a bit.

The cappers with two spring jaws work well. The ones with a fixed brass back and one spring jaw are too tight.

I can't find the link, but there are instructions out there to use a Dremel grinding stone to open that tiny notch in the cylinder for capping at the nipple into a half-circle shape.
I did just that to mine and I can now use my Ted Cash revolver caper to cap the Rem.
Once you get tired of fumbling around with it, it's an easy simple fix.

I would like to try to refrain from grinding away on the cylinder..I have a capper as shown but is still to wide to fit. I may have to file down on the capper instead.

..all Remington 1858 repro's? I have a Pietta that I want to get a capper for. Is the Ted Cash one good for that purpose?

Daniel

I have a Pietta remmy, my Ted Cash straight line capper works perfectly, it is an OLD Pietta, sold under Navy Arms. the newer Pieta cylinders fit it, so take from that what you will

Check out Duelist1954 on YouTube. He has lots of good information on how to shoot Cap and Ball revolvers and also on how to repair and modify them. I followed his instructions and opened up the areas around the nipples and now my capper works easily.
