I'll wager that it's from a hidden vent hole in the barrel or from a percussion lock vented upward on the blind side of the gun.
I didn't even notice the flintlock cock move.
There could be a hidden hammer, percussion lock or firing pin to shoot off a blank cartridge of some sort.

Whoever was Spock's double as a stuntman sure did take a nice dive after being shot.

Watching other TV shows with flintlocks I see characters shoot with the frizzen forward, you would think they would at least try to make it look real LOL.

Seen those before, Hollyweird started using those Trapdoor Springfield "flint locks" in the movies along time ago. They would restock and outfit trap doors with ugly hammer and frizzen parts to look like an old flint lock for the camera but it was a breech loader. Smoke and mirrors......

Well, even if those are pretty phony, someone figured out that the guns needed to look like a flintlock.

Some of the more modern movie makers would have just used the trapdoor rifles. "Hey! It's an old kind of gun. No one will notice."

Can you give an example ? I can't think of one. Seems to me, many of the films today do a pretty good job, or am i watching the wrong movies ?
