I am shooting a Traditions Frontier 50 cal, .495 ball, .015 patch, CCI #11 mag caps, 50 gr 777. I want to try a wad to see if it improves accuracy at 50 yards. Any recommendations or comments, like size of wad (50 or 54), lubed or unlubed? Cards are cheap, I guess they are made of vegetable fiber, can they be used dry?

Thanks,
Fran

Lots of shooters use Wonder Wads (felt pre-lubed wad) between their patched roundball and powder with great results...

You can make your own .50 caliber wads at home simply by taking a 1/2 inch wood drill bit and drill a few dozen holes through a scrap plank of wood, then lay the wood on a workbench and fill the holes with wet paper (news paper works, so does toilet paper) and pack them in tight and let dry...

Once dry, poke the .50 caliber wads out and they are ready to use, if too thick, you can peel some off to suit your needs...

I have also found that the .025 over the shot cards work in my .62

I used a bigger 12ga card, and it went down the tube just fine. I was using 140 grains of FF and my patches quit tearing. Forgot he card and tore a patch. Thes thin ones seem to work fine.

They make .025 'over the shot cards' in .510 diameter, for $7.50 a 1000 at TOTW..............I need a cut of my reccomendations! ::

Try a prelubed felt Wonder Wad. If it works, then you can pursue the homemade route if cost is an issue.
