Cast ductile steel barrel

I’m looking at a naval style deck cannon that the barrel is cast of ductile steel but no liner just curious about what your thoughts are? Thank

I used to machine ductile cast iron but haven’t heard of ductile steel. Are you sure of the steel?

To me it looks like iron he said steel curiosity is about the lack of a liner

In England From 1760 to ~1770, with the use of coke (coal) in the manufacture of ductile cast iron. Always by direct casting in the blast furnace. Iron cannons were cast near 1770 to 1775 in England and near 1780 to 1790 in France and Belgium.
(I did find this in the history of the frigate Hermione 1779 to 1793)...

Is the lack of a steel liner in the bore a cause for concern it’s a little smaller than a golf ball

Cast steel is better than cast iron by a lot.

Machined from steel bar is the best.
