I have just finished reading an English translation of Espingarda Perfeyta (The Perfect Gun) first published in Portugal in 1718.
I was interested that you read the book. I've had it for several years and think of it as an excellent source, but wasn't aware that anyone else had read it. It is the earliest source I've seen for quite a few aspects of guns and their building which we think of as more modern...the Ferguson rifle, screw-barrel/Queen Anne pistols, spiral-wound forged barrels, swamped barrels, etc.

Tough to read, but worth the effort.

I'm not interested in 40 yard shots either. What I would like is a 30 yard gun that I have complete confidence in. My gun killed this year but I would like to have just a wee bit more shot in the circle at 30 yards than I'm currently getting. I loaded the Skycheif load and it works but I just would like a little denser pattern at my max turkey distance. Plus I had a $100 bill in my pocket and it was burning a hole so I just had to spend it on something.

Idaho PRB, I'm assuming your gun has been jug choked. Would you care to share a loading sequence with me and others? Oh and if anyone is interested. Very quick turn around on the jug choke from Caywood. I don't think my barrel was gone for more than 2 weeks. Great communication with him also. I have not shot it yet but will report back with my results.
