I've got to order some percussion caps, and the only decent deal I can find is on CCI #11 magnum caps. I'm just wondering if anyone here has any experience with them. Are they better or worse than a standard cap? Some of the claims are that they ignite the charge more reliably. I see they're a bit more expensive, but not much. Is there any downside to using them on a typical '51, '58, '60 Colt or Remmy?

Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks.

They're a little hotter than a standard cap but they should work just fine on your pistol.

I can't think of any real downside to them unless you look at the total price.

You didn't say if you were going to use them on a Cap & Ball revolver or a single shot pistol but in my opinion when used on a C&B revolver they have no real advantage over a standard #11 cap.
That is because the nipple vents directly into the chamber very much like a underhammer gun does.

Single shot pistols with side drums or chambered breeches might see some advantage in the Magnum caps as the distance from the nipple to the powder chamber is a little longer and the larger flame from them has a better chance of getting to the powder.

IMO, the best use for Magnum caps is for those times that the synthetic black powders are used in a chambered breech rifle. The larger, hotter flame seems to work better with those powders.

Some folks have voiced complaints that CCI's are too tight and that Remington's are just right.
And Winchester's are also made by CCI.
