I`m thinking of buying a Jim Chambers Isasc Haines Kit, and was wondering if there was anyone out there that might want to build it for me. gun could have wood or brass patch box and I would want some carving. if you are a builder and would have time this year to build this kit send me a pm.

I actually know the story why they have 38" barrels if anyone is interested .

OK, OK.......From back in the early 80's..... Don Getz and a couple of his buddies decided to get in the kit business. That was pretty much untraveled territory back then, with this high quality of stuff. They went with the Bivins parts because everybody thought that stuff was so cool back then and Bivins was THE man back in those days.Those Bivins parts were some of the first high quality investment castings on the market. The whole idea of the project was to make a deer hunting rifle for PA.'s flint only season. That's how it ended up with a 38" barrel as Don figured that would be best for a light hunting rifle.
Later, Dunlap recieved permission to copy the gun for his use, then Chambers/Leply/Getz combined together in kit sales. At the present time Getz, Chambers and Dunlap all sell the Haines kit, all started off of Don Getz's original pattern.

Sometimes things are not as they seem, I have seen posts that claim a Haines gun SHOULD have a shorter barrel than the usuall 42", it is interesting how things have evolved in the world of replica ML guns and ML gun building.....sorry for the setup Mike but I could not resist....the Devil made me do it!
