I am the fortunate owner of this .62 smoothbore that I recently purchased from custom builder Mike Brooks. I spent part of this last summer working up a load for PRB. I purchased both .595 and .600 balls and variety of patches of different thickness for testing. I have been shooting rifled barrels for many years, but am new to smoothbore. At first, my patterns were everywhere on and off the target. After a few trips to the range and more experimentation, my groups have now tightened up considerably. Two things I noticed compared to shooting the rifled barrel: 1) The smoothbore requires more experimentation. 2) It is much more sensitive to patch thickness. Two items mentioned only a zillion times here on the Forum. In fact, if I use 17-18 thousanths pillow ticking, I get the same groups with both the .595 and .600, with the former a little easier to load. She likes 75-80 grains of FFG. Anyway, thanks to all of you on this Forum for your experienced teachings. I feel it probably saved me some real time. She now shoots as good as she looks - on the bench. Now, if "I" can just shoot as good as the gun. :haha:
