Robert--A friend of mine sent three sheets, one each for the M1728, M1746, and M1754. I'm passing them on without comment.
Its very difficult to determine a 1728 from a 1754 lock. Generally the if the musket is in an unchanged state, the 1754 has some features that are different such as a shorter butt plate tang, longer front bad and spring secured middle band.
The Lock’s by themselves have some subtle differences, such as the post on the cock is slightly longer on the 1728 and the internal parts and pan are somewhat thicker and beefier on the 1754. The mainspring on the 1754 was the major change, the spring was made heavier and stronger than the 1728 and 1746. The 1754 was listed as the first true reliable french flintlock that could complete with the Brown Bess.
