Over in the PERCUSSION forum I asked for assistance identifying this seemingly rare(ish) rifled musket favored by NSSF shooters for accuracy. Trigger pull is crisp and light. Lock internals are polished. Most importantly, the rifling is progressive meaning that it starts shallow at the muzzle and gets deeper toward the breech. Plus, it comes with a Rapine minie ball mould that casts a .580 bullet that matches the bore. I'm a lefty and there are a couple of guns that are still on my "want list". One is a Fusil de Chasse in 20g/.62 cal. The other is a German Jaeger. Both left-handed flintlocks, of course. Not really interested in selling my Springfield. In fact, it won't bother me to keep it. I just have a strong preference for flinters.

No. I took it to the range yesterday and it impressed me with its accuracy. Like I've said, I'm a flintlock fan but this cap gun is fun!

Back around the early 2020's I bought a James River Armory '61 Springfield that was set up for target shooting with special sights, etc. The word is that JR imported smooth-bore repros and had the barrel rifled by Mr. Hoyt. They also did authenticating work on the stock, etc. I still have it, never shot it yet (!) but like owing it. They were I think $769. or close to that. I forget if they started out as Armi Sport or some other maker. I believe mine is also progressive-rifled. Thanks for you post.

Art, Thanks for sharing your information. Mine has the standard 3-folding leaf rear sight so nothing special there. Now considering that I'm effectively blind from macular cell degeneration in my right eye and have a catarac slowly stealing my vision in the left, shooting one ragged hole in a target at 50 yds. is pretty good and that's what the Springfield did. At this point, if someone has a lefty FdC or Jaeger I'll trade. Not in any hurry.
