I just couldn't pass up this deal - my local gunshop had an old cva hawken .50 kit gun on the shelf
for $65.00, because the set trigger didn't work. The gun still fired with the trigger unset, so I said "what the heck, it'll make a perfect loaner gun!" Well, I took it out to the sandpit last nite, and shot a .75", 4 shot group at 30 yds offhand! the rifling is still so sharp it cuts a tight cleaning patch, I doubt this gun was ever fired. I think I got a steal on this one, I might loan out my T/C instead!

:applause: :applause: Some people have all the luck. Sounds like a great find. Those CVA's are great shooter.

Check out the set trigger. There is a good chance that it only needs a little adjusting to make it work properly.
zonie :)

Yep, lots a people put down the early CVA's as junk. But even if only considered as entry production arms, most of them are real shooters. I currently have 5 early CVA rifles and pistols, and 5 early TC's. The CVA's shoot at least as well as any of the the TC's. As suggested, that set trigger may just need cleaning or adjustment.

I looked at it, and there's a spring missing. It still sets, but takes 2 hands - one to pull the back trigger and one to push the front trigger forward. But for $65.00, who cares, right?

My first BP rifle is a CVA Frontier. Not a bad shooter and I like the buckhorn rear sight! Not bad for a JC Penny Catalog gun!

Welcome to the stupid CVA Hawken trigger problem that I talk about! The spring is a piece of thin wire bent into a square horseshoe shape with a 90 degree tail that engages the front trigger. It is very easy to lose and even easier to mess up putting a trigger group back in. If you need, I can post a picture of the needed spring. I will also give you your money back if you want! Ya done good! I am finishing repairs to a stock for one right now and it is going to be my 54 until I get her pretty stock done. They shoot the 385 Great Plains just as well as they do roundballs!

i have had my own story about "cheap" CVA purchases! picked an "incomplete" .45 cal kentucky kit about 11 years ago, got it home and found everything was there! put it together(with some customizing and it turns out this will shoot almost anything i can get down the barrel! my favorite is a 255 grain pistol bullet in pure lead ahead of 80 gr. of 777. can't miss!!!
