This is the brass rib that I machined for Cherry.
The ramrod diameter is 3/8" so I made the concave "trough" 3/8" and not the typical 1/2" that TOWT sells. This allows the ramrod to be cradled securely by the channel.
The thimbles are custom made, with an O.D. of .478", and have a flat machined on the underside that leaves .025" at the thinnest "apex" of the round through hole.
The thimbles are sunken down to where the rib channel and the thimble "bore" are flush.
This allows the ramrod to be supported along it's entire length, and not riding "off the deck" like most underibs that I have seen.
The rib has 45 degree tabs that overhang the flat .050" per side to give it a sophisticated look.
It is secured by 5-40 fasteners in .140" deep blind holes.
And to calm any fears of the PC Police, I have seen brass ribs on a pair of pistols at the Smithsonian. :blah:
I am learning so much from this site! Thanks.

Do you have more/various pics of the under rib installation?
