This is my Vincent/Hawken hybrid build.
The stock is figured cherry from Dunlap Woods.
It is slim like a contemporary "Vincent" but utilizes a medium "Hawken" style buttplate. The forend is slim and stretched slightly. The forend is not rounded over yet, and has a flat surface along the barrel pin/wedge location to ensure easy and accurate drilling. The top of the barrel channel and the bottom of the forend are parallel to allow uniform clamping for subsequent operations. The cheekpiece is squared off, and the lockpanels really stand out.
The wrist is a flat bottom egg shape and keeps my thumb below line of sight.
The barrel channel is cut for a 15/16" barrel. The ramrod provision is 3/8" and is nice and deep.
The rear of the stock was splashed with water to highlight the figure. The color is freshly cut, so it is a bit light.
I am going to fit the buttplate next, then establish LOP, kinda backwards I know, but I install the buttplate, shoulder the arm, then find out exactly the perfect trigger location, then locate the lock. You will note that the lockpanels are very long at this stage, allowing me to do this.
I am going to chronicle this build for the enjoyment of all, and to get input from the Master Builders on this great forum!
