Morning all, Miss Tudy just finished up a sheath for a Bowie that I made about a week ago.
She used a piece of elk rawhide that didn't quite fit, so she put a patch on it. She adorned it with fringe, French crossbeads, bone hairpipes, buffler hair (simulated scalp),cones, bone beads and skunk beads. It is a sash type sheath.
The knife has a legbone handle wrapped with rawhide. OA it is 11 1/4" with a 7" blade of 1080 HC. Hope y'all like it ...Bud

that really looks nice! excellent work, and looks like something you would see in a real movie!
the sheath is exquisite!

Bud, you and miss Tudy have got the look down pat! You got some nice old beads in that get up! That rig looks like it could tell some hair raising stories!

Looks real good Nifeman! I have been keeping an eye on these rawhide sheaths and have a couple of questions!
:hmm: Is the rawhide you use for the sheath streched over an actual leather sheath? Do you do something to it so it doesn't get brittle after it dries?
What are you sewing the rawhide with?
Really like the effect and thought I might use some rawhide in a new project I am working on, is why I am asking all the questions.

Yes she uses an inner sheath. It gets brittle, but, it won't crack, and she hand sews with linen or real sinew...Bud
