Has anyone made a buffalo chip fire and used it for cooking? Does it burn warm enough for heat on a cold fall evening? I have read that it provides a unique flavor and smell.

I've made fires with both buffalo chips and moose nuggets. Yes the both burn well if dry enough and smoke quite a bit if not (keeps the moskitos away!) I haven't used them for cooking however so couldn't tell you what it does to the taste of food.

Cant say I have rilled meat over this manure, but have made coffee, stew ect in a container more than a few times.
Needs to be dry!
might look dry on top but the bottom where its glued to the ground and the grasses will wick moisture from below! Find them ahead of time and turn em over if you have time and let the sun do its thing.
its not a flamy fire like ceder, but more of a smoldering type, makes lots of smoke and has a unique aroma!
....but it works!
