I saw this rifle in a book "The Kentucky Rifle", Merrill Lindsay, and again in"Kentucky Rifles & Pistols 1750-1850", James R. Johnston. It is a later date (1810) than rifles that I make, but something about it captured my imagination, so.........
It is not a bench copy, rather like he made another one. I kind of like my version, but I think I missed the mark in many ways.
L&R Bailes lock, my own hard maple stock blank, Getz .50cal, straight barrel, heavily modified trigger guard and butt plate, fabricated the rest.

My photography skills are terrible but usually make the gun look better, in this case I think it looks better in hand than in pictures, another mystery. Anyway, comments pro and con are welcome. Thanks for looking.

Nice work as usual Robby. The last picture shows a nice taper from butt to entry pipe....very pleasing to the eye.

Great engraving and the carving is very well done but still has that nice period folk art feel to it. Love your file work.

Thanks for posting this for us. Enjoy, J.D.

A beautiful, slim LR. How long are the RR pipes? Everything about this LR displays an artist's touch that few are fortunate to possess....Fred

My Lord Robby! be careful or ole' Andrew Cuomo may invent a talent tax just for you! :rotf:

Daam, Robby!! You're makin me feel bad.
I haven't visited my shop in a coon's age, tore a tendon in my right shoulder. Doc says it's almost healed but it still hurts like crazy.
You do beautiful work!!

That sure is intricate engraving and carving. The rifle is gorgeous but your "touches" elevate it to a showpiece. :hatsoff:

Thank you all, your words are much appreciated!!!
Necci, Like all my guns, they are made to shoot, first outing and it was too breezy to make any reliable sight adjustment but it is a shooter. With better eye sight this would probably be one big hole.

Fred, the pipes are three inches long, my estimation based on the photographs. Lots of filing!!!

TinStar, it weighs in at 7-1/2 lbs. and feel good in hand. Its a .50 cal., but the barrel is only 13/16 across the flats.

No wall hangers here and this will receive no special treatment, scratches dents, dings, and the natural aging just add to the story.
Thanks again fellows :hatsoff:
Robby
