Cimarron Revolvers

Who makes the 1858 Remington revolver that Cimarron sells? Why is it worth the extra money they are asking? What size ball/bullet fits it best?

dunno but Old South has a 12" buffalo 1858 blued steel for $363.00. I got one, seems like a good one, just shot a few outta it so far. Will group and adjust sights "soon". Was smacking a 8" group into a cedar stump at 60 yds first time out. No blemishes, looks and shoots well.

Cimarron has been known to use several manufacturers, primarily Uberti. They pick the cream of the crop from what they are sent, and send the rest of them back. I've read conflicting reports lately on some revolvers of questionable quality coming from Cimarron, but in each case the poster was quick to point out that Cimarron made it right by exchanging the gun for a different one..no questions asked. That's worth something in itself.

They run almost exclusively with Uberti percussion revolvers and Pedersoli for long guns.

The 1860 Army I bought last year was absolutely flawless! The only problem is that the charcoal blue is not a real tough finish. Are they worth the extra dollars I am happy. If you like to tinker and tune you will likely be happy with another name brand.

I got my Cimarron 1858 through Buffalo Arms and couldn't be happier with it. It is definitely the most nicely finished revolver I own. It is made by Uberti but I really didn't pay much if any more than any non Cimarron Uberti but was more than a Pietta.

Cimarron pays i bit more to get the hand select guns form Uberti & Pedersoli...it's only natural they have to pass a bit on to the customers. You do get what you pay for. Texas Jack's in Fredericksburg, Tex. does a similar set-up.

I have seen this alleged "practice" suggested several times on the Internet. Has anyone to your knowledge verified that this is what Cimarron actually does?

The version I heard through their distributor was that the Uberti inspectors pick out the best they view and they don't actually send stuff back and forth.

No, just rumor picked up from various BP forums although several of the sources I would consider credible.
Doesn't really matter to me as my 'thing' is to buy run-of-the-mill revolvers and work them over myself, but if you're not a tinkerer, I can see where it might be important.

I bought a Cimmeron Uberti Remington with a 5 1/2" barel from them a couple of years ago. They come with an extended warranty. 2yrs. instead of 1. Also everything is proofed. The cylinder, frame, ande barrel, all are stamped instead of just the frame. Action is smoother, fit is better. Would I buy from them again. Yeppers, if I was looking for another.
