After printing this photo (from a black and white neg), I was not happy with it , I wanted it to have an "old look" to it, to accomplish this,I soaked the print in coffee. 16 years later it still smells of hazelenut coffee. J.W.
Seeing that picture reminded me of my days as a reenactor. This picture was taken of me and my comrades in 1982 on Stafford Heights across the river from Fredericksburg, VA. This is a print from a glass plate negative. I'm the butt ugly corporal squatting in the middle.
I've got a bunch more I need to scan. I did this stuff for 20 years and there's a lot of memories. Other than a tintype taken at Fort Frederick, MD, this is the only period process photo I ever had made. Does anyone remember Bob Long of Richmond, VA who used to take sepia tone photos at all the eastern events? He even showed up for my CW wedding in '85. He was a great fellow. His pocket sized pictures were sold by several sutlers over the years. He took a bunch at our wedding and mailed them to me and didn't charge a cent. "Crazy Harry" Bentzell took the picture shown above.
Moderators, this probably should be in the reenactor's forum, but I put it here as a reply. If it needs to be moved, no problem.
