first i hope this is in the right place. I have a few questions regarding the traditions springfield hawken specifically on the flint version. the vent liner is removable to aid in replacement but are the threads the vent liner screws into also threaded into the breech plug? iv read that it was simply just a percussion gun that had the bolster ground flat to barrel and taped for the vent liner. 2 things stand out here to me one when liner is removed the threads for the liner are below the surface of the barrel as there is a shoulder for the vent liner to go into and number two when looking into vent liner threads with liner removed thread only go a little way then end they do not go the full lent to the other side of the barrel as with the older cva bolster/ breech plug design for their percussion guns. this barrel doesn’t appear to have ever been fired the inside is an absolute mirror finish although the outside does have some slight rust on it. the vent liner threads appear to stop just level with the end side of the barrel wall as to be flush and not protrude into the powder chamber can these threads/liner? be removed and a standard percussion drum be installed ( with the proper indexing of the nipple and hammer alignment). anyone with experience in these specific type of chamber/breech systems i’d love to hear from you and i have had a cva percussion drum out and have seen first hand how it threads clear to the other side of the barrel also was able to line it back up using a witness mark and some red lock tight and have had no trouble since but this is to be my first ventur with a flint type system so any and all help insight is greatly appreciated. thank you in advance
