I know that most members of this forum use real BP. However, for those few who use 777, here's the word straight from a Hodgon rep about cleaning and lubricating an ML when using the stuff:

1. Use plain water to clean.

2. Make sure the bore is completely dry. The Hodgdon rep was very emphatic about making sure the bore is dry so that no water gets between the metal and the bore lube.

3. Use any good gun oil to lube the bore. I suggested RemOil and the rep said that was fine.

That's the same stuff I use for my muzzleloaders shooting real BP.
Water to clean, Rem-Oil to protect.

after todays shooting, triple 7 has took a big dump and im going back to pyrodex rs and P. I sighted in with triple 7 some weeks ago, took one shot today at 100 yards with pyrodex p and found i was shooting 10" @ 100 with less powder! Its amazing how much i had to drop my sights down when i switched back to pyrodex. Triple 7 smokes like a freight train when it goes off, pyrodex just simply puts a light coating out there and drifts off fast while t7 just lingers in front of you. I liked the stuff until i bought a can of pyrodex p. Why pay $27 for t7 which doesnt perform as its advertised when i can spend $15 for pyro p and get better performance?Never had any luck with T7 and PRB even when using a wad.

KW,

I haven't used BP or Pyrodex in quite a while. Just started using T7 recently to see how it performs. In fact, haven't even got my Lyman GPR in .54 sighted in with it yet, just took a few shots to see what it's like. If it doesn't rain tomorrow, I'm going to try to get it sighted in. However, as best I remember from shooting BP more than 20 years ago, and then again about 3 years ago, it can give excellent accuracy. Visited a rendezvous in 2004 and a fella from near Lubbock, TX showed me a .50 caliber he had built. He had never even fired it, so we took it to the range, he loaded it up (I don't remember what the load was, but it was real BP) and I fired a 3-shot group into about 1 1/2" at 25 yards offhand--and I'm not that great a shot. So, after all this experimentin', I may just have to go back to the Holy Black!
