That’s true, but l like to see what I can do with the sort of equipment used back in the day. I carry a lighter for emergency, but from fire starting to lighting my pipe I use a glass or a strik a light. A protein bar is light and easy, but I carry historic food. In the field I use the same equipment to clean my gun and do it the same way I do at home, and the same way they did it back then.
I'll bet when it's time to go home you load everything up in something with rubber tires and an internal combustion engine too. Same make and model as Mr. Crockett's.
Yes, I get the PC correct stuff. I am still a working stiff and usually only get 2-1/2 days for a hunt if I am lucky. If I had more time, I think I too would take the time to go your route. For now, there has to be concessions.

I believe a clean rifle is a reliable rifle, and that might come in handy in the middle of the night if Grizz comes to contest me over a dead elk. But I have the option.
Rat, I promise I will not come after your dead elk in the middle of the night.
However, If you invite me, I would love to share a campfire and some fresh meat...:D

What do cars or working have to do with anything. Tenngun's method is actually easier and cheaper than the modern alternatives. It's the lack of "know how" that prevents people from trying new(old actually) things.

At some point what ever we do our search for the past breaks down. I’m 61, near 62 and got a start in this at 18. Each year I want to see what I can do better in this coming year.
But,
No matter what I do it will always fall short... that’s ok the fun is trying.

The comment was to illustrate a point. You, me and everyone here have done the same thing. We adopt the portion of the lifestyle that we can be comfortable with at the time. That changes over time. We all change over time. Over the last couple of years I have leaned more to the old ways than when I started. Don't be so quick to condemn someone for not doing something the same way you do it. You are doing things that others may not think is acceptable. The whole point is to enjoy the hobby (yes it is a hobby). Any portion of the PC/HC aspect that is adopted is great. NONE of us have adopted the entire lifestyle.

I agree, we shouldn't be afraid to try historical or period correct methods or things. Some are a lot of fun and others work well because people had to depend on them for survival. It is good to have skills and knowledge to fall back on when needed. People need to get past the notion that suggesting HC/PC things in any way requires strict compliance. It doesn't.
I would also add that mindset=result. which simply means that if a person has the mindset that they hate something, then that will be the result regardless of how efficient, enjoyable or successful something is.

I'll try to give you an example; I have to start a fire almost every single day. Most of them are done with a lighter. Boring and trivial. But, using a flint and steel brings a smile to my face in what would otherwise be boring and trivial. It also means that because I embraced it and made it enjoyable, I developed the skill to the point where I can literally start a flint and steel fire blindfolded.

You got it. Invite sent. Just have to find the elk. With two people, one only has to stay up half the night....gorging one's self on chunks of back-strap, cooked on sticks over said fire. Yeah, it's a tough job...but we can do it. Then we tell all our friends how tough it was....sitting next to that dead elk, in the dark and cold, waiting for Grizz to appear any moment. !!!! (we won't mention the big warm fire, and the back-strap sizzling over the fire.)

I don't clean BP guns at home....I use a flush nipple but not in the "flush" sense....just as a drain.

I install the flush nipple, pour water down the bore......push it through...then swab with pure Murphy's , then Ballistol. Wipe the hammer, bolster area etc with Ballistol.

Finish with Eezox. Easy , takes 30 minutes if I take my time , 10-20 if I need to get done.
