I was cleaning my muzzleloader (Tc 50 renagade) that i just got just. The plastic jag got stuck and snapped off in the barrel. I first tried to blow it out with a air compressor, but the air just hissed out the barrel. now im trying a bullet puller. it screws in enough to hold the rifle by the ram rod, but when i pull on the stupid thing it just pops off without the jag. Do any of you guys have an idea what i could try next short of take off the breach. i dont have the tools or the know how to do that.

If you managed to get it part way out push it in all the way. Remove the nipple and dribble in a few grains of powder and shoot it out. Be careful where you point it when you fire it out, it will come out with a good amount of force. Never use plastic like that in a M/L.

I guess I don't know what kind of jag you used. Was it the type most commonly seen, round with a concave face and ridges on it, or a common centerfire jag which has a big eye to thread patches through?

If it's one of those there is probably a goodly amount of cloth that you might be able to screw a worm in to and yank it out. Other fixes might be to get a grease zerc and pump the barrel full of grease to use the hydraulic pressure to force it out.

Last resort is to pull the plug and push it through either end. Since you'll never be able to line up the tang flat and barrel perfectly again, you'll have a bit of a bump there when you reassemble, unless you file and totally refinish it.

Hind sight being 20 20 and all, I would have to suggest to you that you only use a jag made for muzzle loaders. Don't use the stuff in a standard gun cleaning kit. It's not usually made for muzzle loaders.

Most often buy a range rod to use to load the gun and at one end you'll find a cleaning jag for the gun. Or you will use the one that comes with the gun and screw it onto the end of the ram rod. Don't over do it with patches either. You want a tight but not overly tight feeling when running the patch up and down the barrel.

Remove nipple and trickle 4-5 gr of BP thru the flash channel. 4F is easier if you can get some. Re install the nipple and push the jag down on the powder, cap and fire in the ground.

Now don't get a plastic jag or even a brass jag w brass threads. Get a brass jag w steel screw run thru it and also a SS range/cleaning rod.
