I just got a new Cabelas Blue Ridge rifle in .54 caliber. I've read a few things where people say to use a smaller brush to clean the patent breech. Can anyone make a recommendation on a brush size to use?

A .243 brush does the job

I mostly just get a real tight seal with a couple of cleaning patches and draw the rod up near the muzzle. You will hear water filling up the barrel. Then push really hard and it will force the water and a lot of crud out of the flash channel.

Are you using a hose fitting on the nipple or do you take your barrel off and clean it in a bucket? Sorry if that's a dumb question.

I use a hose on the nipple to clean my 36 cal Frontier percussion. I take out the lock. After pumping, I use a q-tip threaded into the threads at the end of the rod to check the patent breech for mung, but usually I just get a tiny bit of carbon.
