I have read many posts and articles on cleaning a muzzleloader and most seem to support the theory that you should use either "all natural products" or "petroleum based products" but not the two together. It also seems that most people prefer the "all natural" products because it leads to less fouling, easier to use, and less cleaning is required between use. With that in mind, I would like to stay with the "all natural" products and was wondering if anyone can tell me if the Natural Lube 1000+ products by TC and the Wonderlube products from Traditions are compatible with each other. I have both and it looks like they are the same things with just different brand names. Any advice would be appreciated.

I use both and have mix them with no problem. I clean my guns with a 50/50 mix of water and simple green. Then use wonder lube inside and out. Also use it for a patch lube. Some people hate this stuff but it works for me. Been hearing a lot of talk about Ballistol----has any try it for patch lube and cleaning?

Same thing...invented by the Oxyoke Company, and contract marketed through various other suppliers under their names...IE: Wonderlube is Oxyoke's original name, Natural Lube is TC's name, Traditions, CVA, Remington, etc, all market it under some variation of the name...I use NL1000 all the time

Ballistol was made for guns. Cleaning, lubing, preserving metal, wood, leather -- it has a very interesting history. Use as little as 1:10 Ballistol:Water for cleaning. Straight Ballistol for protection/lubing. For patches, mix anywhere from 1:7 up to 1:4 or so Ballistol:Water, soak patches in that, let completely dry, use that "dry-lube" patching as-is. You will love the stuff. Maybe not the smell, but that goes away rather quickly.

Enjoy!

Why not try Stumpy's Moose Snot? I am going to give it a go, in the hopes of a easier clean up at the end of the day. I have used Wonderlube and had problems with it building up in the bore. I do not clean between shots, and that may have been the problem, I don't know. All I know is it built up in the bore and destroyed accuracy. It took 2 evenings, a brass brush, WD40 and a bucket of patches to get it all out. My rifle has been shooting great ever since the good cleaning.

I only use "moose snot" for lubing patches, been using it for a while and have found it to be the best for myself.
can shoot a long time without loading difficulty, have used it in calibers from .32 to .58 with good results in all. use mostly for target shooting but put a dry felt wad between powder and patched ball when hunting.

TTC

I have tried about everything , I now clean with cold water, oil the barrel with ballistol, and lube patches with ballistol. No rust, easy cleanup, best combination I have tried.

Use Stumpys moose snot when hunting. I use moose milk when at the range and shooting alot. Usually can go 30 shots or more just have to watch the vent stays clean. First load should be as easy as the 30th. Haven't used Moose snot on the range for a long session so can't say how it would react. Guess thats something I'll have to do next time at the range.

I use Ballistol almost exclusively now. As a patch lube, I use between 1/5 to 1/7 parts Ballistol to water (Depending on the gun's preference. They differ), wet the patches then let them dry. This leaves behind just the right amount of Ballistol. Using Ballistol straight on the patches makes an oily mess. This is by far the most accurate lube I've tried.

I also use Ballistol mixed with water for most of my cleaning. Though I also use soapy water on occasion. After drying thoroughly, I lube with Ballistol and haven't had any rusting issues. Ballistol is also really good for removing lead fouling in my BP revolvers, centerfires and rimfires. My moderm guns rarely get any solvent anymore, as they're cleaned and lubed with Ballistol also.

I think Ballistol is a Godsend to shooters. It has replaced dozens of more hazardous chemicals around my work bench and around the house in general (Even Armorall!).
