It's been an interesting season over here.
We maybe about to have a lead ban imposed on us for hunting and clays.
Rifles under .240" maybe exempt.
So far there are no concessions for muzzleloaders .
So where am I going with this, well I've been testing what we call standard steel cartridges in my breech loaders. They are safe in old guns and frankly they are pants! I've wounded to many birds with them and have vowed not to use them.
Heck one day I tested them in the morning with the usual dismal performance and then in the afternoon I went out with a 410 and the 410 beat the 12g and standard steel!!!
Then I upped the steel performance with cartridges that are not supposed to be used in non specially proofed guns but I run them through a 3" sxs and a proofed for such auto. Slightly better but still pants compared to lead.
Anyway, long story short of it is that every time I went out with a muzzleloader and lead shot I always equalled or bettered the cartridge guns! Lead is best.

Alas, due to this back door looming triumph by the anti lefty agenda I may not be able to publicate any hunting stories with my muzzleloaders. It shouldn't happen for 5 years but the vegans are pushing for sooner!

This is why there are time when I ignore stupid laws. By stupid I mean laws passed by people who have no clue as to the matter that they are legislating. A prime example is the Pennsylvania Game Commission . You can't use a semiautomatic rifle for deer hunting, but you can use a semiautomatic shotgun for deer. I use to use my 50 cal. TC down loaded for squirrels, then my 50 cal. Pedersoli downloaded. When I called the game commission to discuss this all the person(i think it was a person)could say was they were using 50 cal. ,50 cal. . When I asked him if he knew about exterior ballistics I couldn't get an answer. I figured that he had a picture of using an M2 to take down the squirrel and the tree at the same time. At 80 yrs. old I am tired of putting up with mentally challenged people who are in charge of telling us what to do! Growing up if I got caught ignoring common sense, I would get a heavy smack off the top of the head. when do WE get someone in government to smack these nitwits in the head and possibly jump start their brains?🤬

A prime example of this is the lead-free laws. It is illegal to hunt ducks, geese and coots with lead shot BUT it is OK to hunt snipe, gallinules and rails with lead shot. All of these birds hang out around water. Are the ducks not going to ingest lead shot if you used it to shoot snipe?

Lawyers and politicians (same thing) don't know how to analyze a situation. Shakespeare was right!

You know that lead shot ban is bunch of BS only a idiot would think of something like that.
