Here's is what "Captain Fred" and I came up with.

at the time we were both working up repeatable patterns.

goal... good pattern-reduce barrel leading to zero.

This was using a Colran turkey choke barrel.
they are very hard to keep the leading to none.
I would not use one of these barrels without a rear sight.

My turkey choke barrel is collecting dust.
Found out I enjoy cylinder bores more after the fact.. full advance to the rear..!LOL!

If you want a great pattern..these will all day long. a clean bore is a happy one.

here are the loading components.pink wad for shot measure only.

The darker cloth wads had less liquid lube on them..
8.5 X 11 # 6 harden lead shot.

Try brown paper - no leading and tight patterns. I make them with a pre-measured load of shot and carry them in a small split-belly pouch.

black hand ....

was this tested for leading in the colran turkey choke barrel?????

...That's what this post is about.

Cylinder-bore barrel. Should still work...

Is leading really an issue when turkey hunting.....How many shots does it take to shoot a turkey?... :shocked2:

If a barrel does lead foul it is really easy to remove.....

I use the pre-made loads to tighten my pattern and for ease of loading. No leading is just a bonus. Work smarter, not harder...

fyi..... these turkey choked barrels are .620 at breach the length till the last 2.5 inches then .580 dia..everything must fit past this .580 choke and then seal the .620 bore...eveything must seal!

An improved pattern is good always but lead comes out with boiling water.

B :hatsoff: .

With the cloth shot cups= zero leading.. boiling is not needed.

22fowl, I am quite intrigued by your load. Please tell me the powder charge you used and the amount of shot. Also give me the dimensions of that lubed cloth "cup". I am assuming your load sequence was powder, 2 overshot cards, 2 lubed felt wads, lubed cloth and shot, 1 overshot card. Is that correct?

Thanks!

Darren

Darren that is correct.....

70 gr 3f goex......

95 gr volume measure of #6 harden lead.

Darren I cut the wad cup patch width to butt the long sides in .620 bore..no overlap.

The length was cut at the muzzle..

.Note !.
once you cut a couple of these and test fire you can reuse them as a template to precut the rest.
Note 2.

80 gr. 3f goex started to open up the pattern at 30 yards.

here's the loading sequence....

dry bore..

70 gr. 3f goex.

2 thin with over shot cards

2 oxyoke wool lubed 62 cal. wads.

Hoppe's Bp lube and solvent....ticking patch cup.

95 gr. volume #6 hardened lead shot.

note..I drop the powder.......fold the cards and wads to get down past the .580 choke....

this wad group stays while i take and arrow shaft and push the ticking wad cup on to the top of the wads partially down the bore...

because the ticking cup is well lubed it sticks to the barrel walls..then pour in the shot and push it all level down to the muzzle...cut off excess ticking
lay another white over shot card on shot drive the load column down on the powder.....

.Bang-Flop.repete.........

Good luck, call them in close, hit them Hard!

Yep I thought so.. I really do appreciate the offer and Thanks for posting on the cloth shot cup. Tomorrow is testing day for me . Bad weathers coming and I gotta' get er done!

Bring enough patch material to work with.

Darren..have fun.keep the bore clean.......dan
