I purchased a nice Cochran lock in 1978, thinking I would build a rifle around it. It was nicely polished in the white.
Is this lock still available? Is it a good lock, and what would it be worth today? I remember paying about twice what other locks were going for back then.

I believe (but not 100% sure) that Cochran is out of business. I know of one shooter who uses a Cochran on his flinter, he has said in the past that finding parts is a problem.

my friend DANIEL has one and is looking for a main spring for his if you find who builds them or where to get parts please post it here.I did see a complet one for sale on ebay not long ago but it was a right hand and my friend needs parts for a left

I used to live near Willie Cochran (Tulsa, OK) and bought two of his locks in the late 70s -one is on my favorite percussion rifle and the other is a flintlock I put on a pistol. He sold out to a fellow in Texas some years back and as of a couple of years ago he was still in business--you might google Cochran locks and see what pops up--I have lost the address of the Texas guy. I guess I ought to stock up on a few parts myself! But so far so good.

the texas fellow you folks are referring to i believe is jim alvey, gun maker. i have tried to contact him through two different e-mail addresses and a phone call and lastly a letter that was returned unopened. if you have any luck contacting him or know of his whereabouts i very much would like to hear about it.

take care, daniel

I have one that pretty well has the same history. Bought it, put it up and found it in box decades later. Anyway, I would give Log Cabin a try as I askled them a while back about it and I believe they had some parts. The worst they can say is no. It is an excellent lock of a quality similar to the high end market of today. Kendig said as much when I inquired.
as usual,
Spot

I remember Willy well...been to his shop and met his wife...I'm not sure he is still living. He was pretty old when I used to camp with him back in the 70's
