opening of our 3 week flintlock only season starts tomorrow, with highs in the low teens all week, 10-15 mph winds and lots of snow. perfect weather  good luck to everyone heading out.

I wish we had a flintlock only season but that will never happen. If we did and it was in the teens for temps, I'd have to chicken out.
I'm too old to put up with that stuff anymore. :shake:

the good part is the deer will be up and moving to a food source. find that food, standing or just picked corn, and your in there, they have to eat!

Snowed here, started yesterday evening and went through the night and most of today.16" of new powder and temps in the high 20's the snow is just fluffy powder

I hope to be out here in the center of PA all week long on my vacation.
I hope to hunt with 15-20 guys tomorrow on some premium private ground so there are always plenty of action. Should be about 10 degrees when we start.
Other days I'll hunt with a handful of guys. The amount of public land here is staggering. I hunt with some serious guys, and we hunt tons of locations. Every year a new place of two. A true blessing.
Good luck guys.

OK, I'm jealous... Most of the land here in Tejas is private and lease/hunt rates are going through the roof with the huge influx of Yanks and Sunny Coasters. Land owners can pretty much get whatever they want anymore for lease or hunting fees.
Enjoy the hunts! Put some meat in the freezers.
AND TAKE A LOT OF PICTURES.

Jealous also of the amount of public land other states offer. I have to drive at least six hours to hunt public land with my bow or ml. Heading out Thursday with string stick, but will use ML in national forests here in January.

I'm jealous of those that get to hunt in January. And of the huge pieces of public land in Pa.
Funny how when I mentioned here once that Texas was not on my short list of places to move to, when/if I escape the People's Republic of Connecticut, because of the lack of public land, the Texans here went nuts telling me how wrong I am.

You are not wrong. I was born here and have lived here my whole life. I was raised in the Amarillo (panhandle area) on a ranch/farm and have lived in the DFW area and now live near Austin. Public land here for hunting is limited, and crowded enough that I just don't consider it safe anymore. Access rules limit motorized transportation on these lands and at my age, long days or a week afield just aren't an option.

LOL, back in those days it was a 2 lane road sometimes with no shoulders - called Route 66. There was a train track that ran along beside it for many-many miles. Now it's a super highway and the tracks have been gone for a lot of years. And you are spot on with the smell nowdays. But the "yards" weren't there when I lived there, thankfully..

hard to believe, but they got 5 feet about 40 minutes north of me, while we only have about 4 inches! but it is COLD!!!!!!!!!!

Only about 1/2 inch of crunchy snow here, but it was -2F when we started, and +3F when we quit at lunch yesterday. We only saw two because they sit pretty tight when it is this cold.
I did house chores today to make the wife happy but I did sneak in some shooting in the back yard. 16F and a bit windy made for only 10 shots.
I will hunt with a gang tomorrow and they say there should be some fresh snow and 17F.

+4F at the house tomorrow morning according to the weather guys. The mountain where we hunt will probably be below zero, and naturally a bit more wind. I am actually thinking of my Sorel boots. Not so good for walking, but good for keeping the feet warm. I have been using Heat Holder socks, and those seem to be very warm.
Derr won't be moving much, so we will be walking around after an morning hour post.
