just finished on my hawk, cost me 21 dollars at Smokey mountain knife works. it was plain handle as could be but after i sanded the clearcoat and a little stain there was some pretty wood underneath. wish i would of welded that hole up, but i guess i will put a brass pin or something in it.

Nice bit of file work there, also. How hard was it to notch the steel? Great job.

If you get around to learning to throw a hawk, you will want to shorten that end of the handle that sticks above the axe head, and you won't want those notches in the lower handle. They will interfere with a consistent release from your hand.

If you actually use the axe for work around came, those notches will raise blisters faster than would a smooth handle.

You did a nice job of putting that together, and you should be proud. :hatsoff:

I find the hole on these hawks pretty ugly, too. I can't weld, so I turn the set screw upside-down in the hole, JB Weld it in place, and file it flat. Once it's re-finished, you hardly notice it's there. Thought that might help you or somebody else.
