I sharpen mine with a file. Don't know about the rest of the steel. I don't think they have a separate piece of different steel welded in for the bit.https://www.coldsteel.com/axes-tomahawks/
I'm curious to know if these are fileable. I'm looking at their "Pipe-hawk" and welding up the screw is no problem but to what degree are they hardened. Are they file friendly? I see a shape in there, but will require considerable file work to get there. Anyone have experience with these?

I stripped the black finish off of mine, which was more work than I anticipated, sharpened it to a razor edge, then cut the handle a little shorter and stained it.
It is rugged and sharp, it does it's tasks well,,,, but it is heavy. If I were to do it again I would get the "trail-hawk," and work from that.
But, I won't, my Zach Royer 'hawk is all I could want or need.
