The recipe for both of Stumpy's formulae are found on THIS forum, up under ARTICLES, in the member Resource section of the Index page. Stumpy's nom de plume is Stumpkiller, here, BTW.

Moose milk is a product created years ago, and was published in Muzzle Blasts on numerous occasions. Basically, the recipe is:

Per Quart jar:

1 Fluid oz of Water Soluble Oil( Napa products)
1 fluid oz of liquid soap( I used Pinesol in my first batch. It smelled good, but I don't think it cleans any better than ordinary liquid dish soap.)
1 fluid oz Hydrogen Peroxide.

Fill the quart with water.

The Water soluble oil will turn the mix white when the water is added.

Later, Hoppes began selling its own version of Moose milk, but changed the name to the current version.

I no longer put the Hydrogen Peroxide in the Moose milk I have, as its way too corrosive. The water, oil and soap mix works as well.

Until recently, I could not get Murphy's oil soap here. Now that its available, I am going to make up some of Stumpy's Moose Snot to try.

Best wishes. There really is no reason to buy any commercial patch lube or cleaner, if you shoot BP and PRBs in your gun.

I've used Moose Snot down to about 10 degrees F with good success; I now use it exclusively.

I tried Mink Oil, but it's too expensive to use all year, and when switching between it and Bore Butter (my previous lube of choice), my point of impact at 100 yards changed by about 3 inches.

I use white tub hand cleaner - don't get the stuff with pumice grit in it.
several different makers, go-jo, 'goop' (comes in a handy tube) and permatex are available around here at auto parts stores. they all have some alky in them
many shooters here favor stumpy's elixir however.

I found the quote on the CAS forum

"Now, with the fouling soft any water based cleaner will work to easily clean your guns. I like One part Ballistol to Ten parts water, called "Moosemilk". I spritz it down the barrel and over any fouled parts and wipe it off. I pull a boresnake thru the bore and I'm done. Moosemilk leaves a protective residue as the water evaporates. I've never had any rust on my guns this way."

That is a lot more oil to water than the original formula, and it lacks the soap, too. " MOOSE MILK" has been used to describe lots of mixtures-- You won't find it on the Tablets carved in stone.

Oh, I looked back at my notes, and found I was mistaken by what was called for. I used "Lestoil" for my liquid soap with that first batch. It was a friend of mine who chose to use "Pinesol", to help conceal the smell of sulfur trioxide to quiet his girlfriend's complaint about how awful the smell was when he cleaned his gun. I still have part of that first quart left, and it has no smell of "pine" to it. The hydrogen peroxide has long ago dissolved, and there is no longer any reaction when the mixture is shaken in its bottle.

Mink oil works! I've been using it for 2 years, huntin yotes in the winter,(no success)but jack rabbits fall to my .32.
