I just picked up a colt 1851 2nd generatin at a gun show. It's in vg condition.I am having some trouble finding much info on these. Was it manufactured in Colts US facility? Are all parts interchangable with the original? I have been told that Colt begin the serial numbers where they left off when the 1851 was replaced by the SAA.Any articles that might be posted online
would be of interest.

There are two 2nd Generation Colt Navys: the "C" series and the "F" series. They were made in America using rough forgings from Uberti, the best of the Italian revolver makers. The "C" series guns were finished by Colt at the Hartford factory. The "F" series revolvers were built in New Jersey by Iver Johnson under contract to Colt and to Colt standards and like the "C" series revolvers are genuine Colts and considered so by Colt. You can get a letter authenticating your revolver and telling it's particulars, just as you can with a SAA.
