Back in the 70s, Colt sold some BP pistols (1851 Navy perhaps others) that were supposedly serial #ed to start up where the original production numbers left off. As I recall, these guns were said to be made on the original tooling & were "recent production" rather than "replicas".
Does anyone know anything about these guns & did Colt actually make them or contract the work out?

The Castings and unfinnished parts came from Uberti and were Finnished and assemled here by Colt, Conn. Therefore no proof marks required. Xlint Revolvers, very pricey and still collectable. $500 and up unfired very expensive.
The Colt Signature models 3rd generation were purchased and assembled in simular fashion, but by Colt N.Y. which was given Colt's name by Colt. When the Big fire burned the Colt factory no records or Drawings were saved. Therefore the price of highly collectable Colt 1st Generation Revs. These have been my findings anyway.
