That sure makes me glad that I have a couple hundred pounds in storage. My son works for a medical center and I have hopes of one day scoring on some lead shielding from X-ray rooms when and if any are remodeled. If I score on another hundred pounds or so from the medical center, I'll be thinking of you as I melt it and cast ingots. :blah: :haha:

All of you should look into "lead mining"!

My 2 "brothers-of-the-heart" and I have been "mining" at the county police range & we now have about a 55-gal drum full of "expended projectiles", which when re-smelted & cast into balls/bullets, should outlast all of us.
("The little brother" is a reserve deputy sheriff & the sheriff, when asked about "mining" said, "Knock yourself out".)

As a friend of ours says, "Those who ask not, neither do they receive."

yours, satx

I have a friend that is in demolition of old houses (Holland and Belgium) ... in many of those a lot of old lead pipes are to be found. A nice source of lead is also found in old stained glass paines/windows... If you can find someone who restores/makes such windows, all the scraps are of very soft lead! And of course: scrounging the backstops of your local gunclub...

I'm working on hitting the 200lb. mark. So far its 91 pounds in ingots with 15lbs. of old plumbers and about 16lbs. of stick-on weights from the tire shop(cleaned him out!) yet to too be melted down.
