I too like the music box. I think horn box is a great idea. I was wondering where he found the mechanism for it and what tune does it play?

This one plays "Thriller" (my granddaughter's choice). I get the mechanisms from: musicboxattic.com. Many tune choices in 18 note mechanisms. They also offer beautiful 30 note mechanisms (higher cost).

I would love to hear that "music box"!

I have a couple of large, thick horns that I bought from Roland Cadle at the Lewisburg, PA show a couple of years ago. I cut the section I need and make a tapered plug about the diameter of each end of the horn section. I heat the horn in lard @ 325 degrees. In for about 15 seconds and, then out. Repeat until the horn is pliable then force it onto the tapered plug. (I tap it down with a hammer and wood block). I then put it back on the lathe - the centers are already there from turning the plug. I square the ends, turn down the side to the thickness I want, then sand and polish with #7 rubbing compound.

ok - i'll 'fess up: went on amazon and spent more of my hard earned, God entrusted, overtaxed dollars on little bits of stuff which will languish in my shop for years before I 'get around' to fooling with them ...

well, in this case, maybe not.

by the way - for those using a Jet midi lathe, you will need to mark the live center and make sure that you're putting the plug back exactly the same way it went in ... even the slightest shift in concentricity will drive you nuts (don't ask me how I know) ...
