Offering this model 1861 U.S. contract musket manufactured 1862. Bridesburg contract Phila. PA. This musket was picked up or captured on some battlefield and repaired and reissued from the Richmond Arsenal. There were about five arsenals in VA that repair collected arms and all were proof stamped in the same location ahead of the trigger guard with their appropriate letter stamp. The damaged barrel was replaced with a model 1855 barrel as seen where the fence was cut down behind the bolster to make room for the 1855 Maynard tape system Lock.
The rear sight is a single leaf sight from a model 1863 indicating this work was most likely done late 1863 or into 1864. There is a faint "Z" stamp still visible on the bottom of the fore end just forward of the trigger guard. This was the view and proof mark of Captain Louis Zimmers Chief Inspector of the Richmond Arsenal. A nice example of a known Confederate arm. Lock holds on half and full cock. Works as should. I can provide other photos as requested. Asking $3000.00 and I will ship to the lower 48 states included. Thanks for looking.
