Tried searching, found lots of stuff I haven't found out about on here, but not the answer to this question..

Ok, so I got a R.E.A.L. mold for .50, 320gr. Turned out some darn good looking bullets. Now, I need to lube them.. I have been using the BoreButter for my patches, and the maxi-balls I shot before were lubed with Bore Butter, but it's "thicker" somehow then whats in my tube.. I have some beeswax and thought I would melt some together to thicken the BB a bit, so it will stay in place on the R.E.A.L. bullets.

Any recomendations on "ratio"? Method? My current plan is to try 20% beeswax, melted in small double boiler kind of deal, mix and finger lube.

thanks

MOOSE MARROW
All Weather Conical Lube & Laxative

A denser lube for adhering in the grooves of conical bullets

Beeswax 3 oz.
Castor Oil 9 oz.
Murphy's Oil Soap 1 oz.
Witch Hazel 1 oz.

Thanks Stumpkiller, that's a recipe to keep, but right now, on that list all I own is beeswax...

I am hopeing to use the stuff I have on hand..Before tomorrow morning when I go hunting.

Put the bore butter in a cool place, it will really stiffen up.

It gets almost a solid in real cold weather. I load up warm then keep the gun in the barn till I'm done hunting with it.

I tumble lube my REAL's with Lee Liquid Alox and use a lubed felt wad over powder. By far the best way I have found for using REAL's.

I melt some Bore Butter and a little bees wax in a small muffin pan. With tweezers, grab the top band of the REAL and dip it in the mix so all the lube groove is covered. Place the REALs on wax paper and let them set for a half to one hour. When they have set, remove from wax paper, stick a Wonder Wad on the end and roll in smaller pieces of wax paper. Twist on both ends and you have a REAL Tootsie Roll. Drop a handful in your bag and you are good to go. That's how I do my 380 grain REALs  .

what does the whitch hazel and murphys oil do for the gun barrel ? i am trying to find and or make a bullet lube for maxiballs that is unscented yet easy to work from summer to winter

The Murphys has detergent (and some oils) that breaks up the fouling and keeps it soft and the witch hazel helps the oils smear out on the metal instead of just beading up. Neither seemed to cause rust on their own or in mixtures in my tests on scrubbed sheet steel, then on sheet steel flashed with blackpowder and hose rinsed and finally tested for three years in my $2,500 custom rifle and two T/C rifles.

Huntin Dawg is right on target. LEE liquid alox lube is the best trick. Just apply and let dry, your done.

I keep some of those small tin cans that you see on the rack in drugstores and such, the ones with mints and the like. I squeeze a little bore butter in one, throw it in the bag and when I go to load, use felt wad and then just barely dip the base of the bullet into the bore butter up to about the bottom of the first groove.

Never felt the need to fill the grooves.

I use 20% beeswax and 80 % lard so I think adding 20% beeswax to your bore butter should do a good job.
