I am wanting to do my first flinter build. I have been thinking about this for a while.

I am wanting something that would be HC for the RMFT in the 1820's or early '30's. I want a .54. Can anyone recommend me a good, high quality kit with set triggers? Or am I looking at a custom kit? If so, where can I go for reasonable prices? I will have around a grand to spare come August, I think. I don't want to spend all that because I need some tools, too, and don't want to have to wait to get those if I don't have to.

Also via track of the wolf or pecatonica you cn get the parts to build an"English"style penslvania trade rifle, very popular with the fur companies

For the Rockey Mountain fur trade Don Stith has the most authentic Hawken kits available and his prices are reasonable considering what you get for your money.

Consider his full stock Hawken in flint:

Enjoy, J.D.

....and you get Don Stith's expertise and advice on the build. Few are more learned than Mr. Stith where Hawken rifles are concerned. Enjoy, J.D.
