I'm thinking about trying to get to this in August. Has anyone been to prior CLA shows? Did you find it worthwhile? What did you like/dislike? Thanks.

I went for the first time this past August. It was an amazing show. For me it's about a 7 hour drive but worth it. Plan to spend more than one day if you can. Last year the CLA invited the Kentucky Corp of Longriflemen to join them. It took 2 more huge rooms to house the additional original guns, horns etc. I am told this will be done each year. Take your camera.

Regards,
Pletch

I have attended for the last four or five years, and like Pletch, it's a 7 hour drive, for me. I gotta say that the CLA show is the best I have seen. What I didn't like was not having enough time to cover everything thoroughly. There is just too much to take in, in two days. The show runs Friday and Saturday, BTW, so make arrangements to arrive Friday, if possible. I think the show is open until 8:00 Friday, but not sure about that.

Do take a camera...and lots of cash, if you can afford to buy lots and lots of really neat stuff.

I can't afford to buy very much, so I just drool allot. :shocked2:

I went last year and it was great. i could not believe what some of the long rifles sold for. I did buy some supplies and got to see the rifle that the House brothers made. i think they are drawing for the rifle at the show this year. i will be going this year. o i live about 30 minutes from the show if i walk and just a few if i drive. if you come and want to spend the day at the show but your family wants something else, send them to hamburg out by i-75, its all the shopping and good eats you could want. if you plan to stay overnight there are two hotels connected to the building the show is in. hope everyone that comes enjoys the show and lexington. jsams

Thanks everyone. Sounds like its worth the trip...unfortunately we vacationed in Kentucky a couple of years ago (enjoyed the Frazier museum in Louisville) so I'm not sure my social secretary is up for revisiting the area this soon. May have to bribe with a side-trip down to see the Biltmore House or something. :)

Once you walk into the CLA show its like a total sensory over whelming experience. Bring MUCHO DINERO, and comfy shoes. BTW its in a mall so if the significant other doesnt like that kinda stuff. She can shop.

Looks like attending is a definite maybe at this point. I've been contemplating a career change in a few years from IT to maybe building flintlocks so this would probably be a make/break event for that decision.
