Continental SxS Percussion Shotguns

A fortnight ago I bought a couple of original Continental sxs percussion shotguns I mostly go for those of English make but these seemed in good condition .
First is a percussion sxs in 18 bore with 33 inch Damascus barrels ,the makers name is Bordoni which is on the left lock and Brescia on the right lock. This gun is of late manufacture for which I would date 1870-1900 .
The second is a sxs 20 bore by Moreau Paris with typical continental carving ,it has 30 inch Damascus barrels which have been added and are English By Fotherby of Wakefield 1810-1830 while the gun is about 1840.Both guns are in good condition .

Not much interest in this thread maybe original sxs percussion shotguns are not the in thing must keep this in mind if thinking of forwarding further threads

I saw a dandy on the wall at a job site once. They had just bought it for $600.00. 20ga and in better shape than some of my replica guns! Was Damascus dbl 20 and had a french guys name engraved. I offered $800,00 and they declined (the guy dont even shoot!). On the way out I told the Mrs that when they were up hard for a house payment to keep my card and call. 10 yrs later and they are apparently making the payments :haha:

Actually I love to see nice older guns like these. I think the French piece is interesting, especially the way the locks are made. Almost looks like a conversion. The stock work is nice too.

I too love old S X S's -- any S X S actually :grin: . I don't come across them here in the states like the ones you show. They are very nice - were they "reasonably" priced??

Those are nice finds! To say the least. Not much in that condition over here. There is a dealer in Wshington State with 2 Purdey guns in their original case. But they are, aah, somewhat more expensive.

Can you tell if the breeches of the French gun have screwed in "drums"? I do not mean in the usual sense, but I have seen locks very like this that Were conversions, and very nice bolsters screwed to the barrel.
Mine had rounded locks, and no stirrup for the mainspring, the barrels were also very old, with separate loops for each barrel to attach it to the stock, But! The stock was early Empire period, as was the trigger -guard.

Very nice guns, and nice to see a good rendition of the lower stock carving!

If you are seeking advice on any type on original muzzle loading shotgun that have different types of ignition I will help you if possible .

Thank you for the "Above" photos. Yes, proper and nicely made breeches. Mine were conversions but nicely done.
