Ladies and Gentlemen, I'm hooked on muzzleloading and I hope never to recover. However, I didn't count on a certain side affect: One or two muzzleloaders isn't enough. I find myself rationalizing why I need another one. I have a .50 for deer...which is great for woodlot hunting. I'm telling myself I need a .58 or .62 to take those 100-120yd deer shots you may find in more open woods.
For those of you that report to an "aquisition committee" like myself, how do you go about convincing your significant other to let you feed your addiction? :hmm:

The only way to convince the "aquisition committee" is to allow her to purchase something of equal or greater value.

I used that tactic on my last purchase of a .36 Frontier Rifle. Can I keep using it, or does it become old?

Better yet get her addacted but that would mean Two new Rifles! Beleave me Ihave been there done that.

Many many firearms is definately the answer. My acquisition committee will say "When did you get that one dear?" and I simply reply: "oh I've had that for a long time. Don't you remember?"

Almost works every time if you have a wife who is totally uninterested in firearms and can't tell one from the other. When that doesn't work then you resort back to plan A...dinner, movie, jewelry, bribery, sucking up and whining etc.

I would love to help, but my wife is on the forum too, I can't divulge my secrets or she might find out.

YOu guys have it all wrong. Buy HER that .54 caliber gun. When it won't fit, or recoils to much, or weighs too much for her to shoot, it will revert to being another of " Your guns ". (Oh, I said .54 caliber, because you don't need any .58, or .62 caliber rifle to hit deer and kill them at 120 yards) The trajectory on those heavier calibers becomes a factor at those distance, as does the recoil.)

Second method is simply to sell your .50 and buy a .54. " She-who-must-be-obeyed" will accept that as a sound investment.

I hve a 20 gauge(.62 caliber) Smoothbore fowler, that can be used to shoot shot for upland game, or a PRB for deer. It won't reach out to 120 yards accurately, but inside 80 yards, no deer is safe. And, I am a good enough hunter to pick my shots, and pass on those out of my working range.

If you don't pass up shots, you don't have stories about the " one that got away " to share with the rest of us! What is more important? Meat, or spending time with your friends commiserating with them about lost opportunities? :hmm: :rotf:

Or...a nice side benefit of having a houseful of TC Hawkens is that they all look the same to the casual committee observer

(to be fair, I need to say that my 'committe chief' of 40+ years is great, and we both pursue our hobbies with freedom)

look her right in the eyes and say "Know your place woman!"

Let me know how this approach works for ya :shocked2:

That's the right idea. Buy "her" a gun. My wife said a few years ago, she might try shooting, but my rifle was too heavy for her to hold. So, as a good husband, I went right out and bought "her a Crockett .32" so she would have a lighter rifle (good for squirrels too). Well several years later she still hasn;t shot it, but I have a nice .32 to shoot.

I use the "squirrel money approach" and what she doesn't know won't hurt her. Remember, it is easier to ask forgiveness than permission.

It followed me home dosen't work. Usint the lines I used to explain away all the fly rods- Well a Golfer wouldnt use just one club would he ? Yes there are two 4 weights one is backup.
So I discoverd that you can say- OH yeah I am fixing them up to sell them, works but the only thing is you actually have to sell one once in a whyle Sell one buy two.

Thats ok you can tell them, you already got me addicted and I haven't even shot the thing yet! I am making plans for the next one. And if you are not careful I will wind up with more than you! :blah:

Oh, what plans might those be honey? Does this mean I can start picking out the parts for my next project? (negotiation at work guys  )

I asked her if she would like to shoot mine(.62 flint) and she agreed...from the benchrest.
After the smoke cleared and she dusted herself off, she said "you can keep it!"
