This may have been around for awhile but I hadn't seen it before. Ever wonder what your bore on your rifle looks like? :hmm:
CVA has a product called Trophy Bore Light. I picked one up $7.95 plus tax at my local gun shop. It is about 1 & 1/4 " in length. All brass construction. Drop in two small hearing aid style batteries, per instructuions. Turn knob on end and a greenish light comes on, drop in upside down in barrel and you can see your bore. When done simply turn up and pour out of barrel and turn off. Doesn't say for use with what bore diameter, but have no problem with getting stuck in my 50 cal. :applause:

I know my wife says I am easily impressed too!! :rotf: :rotf: To that I responed DITO!! :rotf: :applause: :rotf:

They are excellent...

Will it drop into a .36

Mike
There are a couple different sizes and I'm not aware of any that will drop into a .36cal...I think the battery dimensions & case can only go so small.

However, I've seen advertisements of small shiny pieces of polished aluminum that can be dropped down bore that you then shine a flashlight onto and use the bright reflection.

If your .36 is a flinter, you could remove the vent and use the flexible fiberoptic cable accessory that can be bought for a mini-mag light...snake it through the vent curving up into the open breech pointing up the barrel

CVA's won't fit a .36 or a .40 for that matter. There is a threaded ring that has to be removed to go into a .45. They have been around for a while.

I just got around to buying one yesterday. Saw somebody else's and had to have one :) .

Hey Cliff, you need a .50 cal. for all those BIG BUGS in FLA? :rotf: :haha: :shocked2: .

All the best, Dave

Didn't figure they were new, just new to me! :rotf: :rotf:
I just threw my dial calipers on this one I got. The body is .430, the ring you unscrew to install, O ring, batteries and bulb, has to be reinstall to hold all of that. That ring measures best as I can tell .449. It would probably get stuck in a .45, and the ring has to be on it for it to work.
I just thought it was cool because for a nominal investment I can now take a looksee at my bore from time to time. :hmm: :blah: :rotf: :rotf:

Those things are great. I think most of them will go down to .40 cal. Don't make the mistake that I did and leave it turned on and forget about it!

Oh manure! Gotta go! :shocked2: :rotf:

Now all I have to do is get enough segments put into my glasses so I can focus all the way down. :(

I wanted a light that would fit in a .45 caliber bore without any problems and I actually have one that will work in a .40 caliber bore. How do I have one of these...? I built it from components.

There are small high intensity LEDs that will light up the interior of the barrel like daylight. I found a battery that is small enough to slide down anything .40 caliber and up. Make sure to add a current limiting resistor to the circuit to prevent burning out the LED prematurely.

I only recommend building your own if you have some electrical experience soldering small components and don't mind that it looks crude... It really works well and I am still trying to come up with a lighting system that will work in .32 and .36 calibers.

If I can draw a picture of it and write up a plan and components list and a "how-to" sheet, I will post it in the accessories section.

BTW, I've seen a professional set of drop in mirrors that work very well, but only with a powerful light source.

Saw a guy with one at a blanket shoot I was at. I was amazed. When it came time to pick up your prize, there just happened to be one on the blanket.

I do have a question though > does anyone know if they take a hearing aid or watch battery ? Mine hasn't died on me yet - just figured I would try to be prepared :haha:

JWP,
Look carefully at the battery you have
now and there should be a number on it like 312etc
that is what you want to replace it with.

My experience is that it's at least break-even or possibly more cost effective to just buy a new unit.

Once you locate & buy the batteries you need, and do so with today's gasoline prices, it doesn't cost any more, possibly less, to just add a new bore light to your next BP supply order and have a spare on hand.

I have a bore light that will fit down to a .22 cal. Just go into your local sporting goods and pick up a "Bobber Lite" for night fishing. If I remember right you just need the replacement light for around $5. No buying batteries, it is ready to go out of the package.

I've used them for about 10 yrs. only replaced a battery once. They are great when you are buying used muzzleloaders or just checking your own barrels. I did have one, once, get stuck. The small end went into the patent breach and wouldn't budge. Pounded muzzle on a rubber mat, fired a cap, still wouldn't budge, had to put in about3 grs. of powder to blow it out onto a towel, no damage. Mirrors and polished metal are ok but don't compare to these lights.
