Can copper-plated shot be used in a BP barrel?

Thanks,
Hugh
Sure...copper is softer than steel.

But...steel is another matter...just like with modern shotguns, you wouldn't want to use steel shot in your bore without a plastic steel shot cup.

I'm going to try copper plated shot in my turkey barrel and see if it tightens up an already excellent pattern even a little tighter at 40yds

man alive, I wish I could get a bettern pattern at 30 yards let alone any pattern at 40 shew.

The copper plated seemed to help my pattern from regular lead shot, atleast a little. I'm eager to play with the buffer and paper shotcups I've seen mentioned on here and in some pm's. My smokepole is still in Mn though, hopefully I'll see her again soon!

No......purely a "lead" barrel. From Chambers, but made by Rayl, I believe.

Just as general info...Winchester's "Lubaloy" shot (copper plated) has been around for decades, long before steel shot was introduced, and even longer before any barrels were made that are said to be steel rated. Seems if there were any concerns with it...like the concerns we've heard every since day one with steel shot...it would be widespread knowledge by now.
