I thought that I viewed someones post about using half of a cotton ball for wadding and I was wondering if that works. I have never used any wadding but have wondered if the patch lube effected the powder without wadding. I thought that the cotton balls are easy to get and inexpensive and if it works I will try it.

I take it you mean as a buffer between a patched ball and the powder. Don't see why that wouldn't work. When I'm planning on possibly leaving a patched ball down on the powder for a long time I drop an Ox-Yoke fiber wad over the powder. I think at $7.50/1000 they are even cheaper than cotton balls.

If it was me, I would make sure that the cotton ball is REAL cotton, I believe that rayon cotton balls will melt under high temperatures...

I had a problem with a renagade 50 cal. this summer not shooting constant. When I looked at the patches they all had a big hole in them. After reading many of the posts I realized what the problems are and will correct them. One thing that came up was about using wadding. I have never used it and was wondering if there was any benefits to using wadding. I figured the inexpesive way, was to to use cotton balls but I did not realize that cotton balls were more expensive. I also made sure that it would be 100% cotton that I was using. I did make some of that moose milk that stumpkiller has posted. I think that and a patch will be good enough. If there is anything else let me know.
