While certainly up to you to drill and tap the tang, T/C parts are interchangeable. When I added a Lyman 57 to my Hawken and Renegade I kept the original tang and trolled the great auction site for original TC tangs that already had the center hole drilled to allow for the T/C tang sight. You can find them both in 15/16" as well as 1". I'm also not that mechanically inclined, so finding a replacement tang was the best option for me.

I suggest the same as Ruff Hunter, buy one. Just now looked and the prices are stupid high for what it is but that's the "free-market" at work, I guess. Cheapest I saw was this for $65: 15/16 three-hole
I've tapped a couple but have also picked up two or three of the three-hole when I saw them cheap. Always nice to use factory originals and save your own original for later, especially if you ever decide to trade/sell, then you can swap back.
