I'm going chasin' after bunnies tomorrow. Two beaglin' buddies and I will be chasin' them rabbits with about 5 or 6 beagles.

I'll be the only one carryin' a ML I'll be flintlockin' em, last year I held my own against them modern shotguns. We'll see if we can't best em this year!LOL! They'd love that I know.

Nothin' like chasin' bunnies with them merry little hounds. Except maybe shootin' em with a flinter!

Well good luck to you on your hunt :)I plan on geten out this week end with the 36 caplock,we finally have sum snow on the ground here,a little more than i would have liked but still it ert to be good. :RO:

Ah, man. What a day. Spent many a year following beagles- first on cottontails, then snowshoe hares once I moved to Alaska. Miss those little pups terrible, but can't make them fit into the household right now.

My last few years with beagles on hares, I used a double-12 capper. Flint makes sense, because when it's too wet for flint it's also too wet for the dogs to have much luck. Now I'm whacking snowshoes solo with PRB's (both 36 and 54), but fun as it is, it's just not the same.

Have a great time out there, and think of us less fortunate ones when you hear that yodel turn in your direction.

Yes sir I sure hope to have as good a day as I had last year there! Going to have a hard time going to sleep tonight! Going in PC dress also!

Here's a pic of my flintlock shotgun! It kind of reminds me of the first gun Remington made in 1812!

Look out Peter Cottontail is right Stumpy.

We jumped 9 wabbits I killed 3 for 3 shots with my flinter. And My pals shot 7 to 10 times each to bag their measly 2 wabbits a piece!

All of them were flat gettin' it on no sitting targets at all!

I cleaned 2 of them and gave them to the farmer who so graciously lets me hunt!

Don't ya just love it when that happens. :: It's always nice to outdo your cartridge shooting friends, especially with a flinter. Congratulations.

I hunted deer and rabbits with dogs when I was younger. Found that I spent a few hours hunting with them and then several hours hunting for them.

I started hunting deer and rabbits on my own and found that I enjoyed it more.

I also switched from shotgun to small bore rifle for rabbit. I set the sights for a 6 o'clock hold so that I could see the shoulder which would alert me to any movement as I prepared to fire. When fired, the ball would give a great head shot.

There was another post about upland bird ML hunting (or the lack thereof) being referenced in the forum in general. Now, after reading this thread I am starting to get more of an active itch in terms of ML shotguning than I have had in the past. What manufactures do you folks recommend for a new guy in the ML shotguning arena and how about styles -- single barrel or SXS :hmm: My intent would be for small game hunting (birds and bunnies).
