Just curious. What do you guys like for a cow elk load with a .54 PRB and 2F real black?

All opinions welcome.

Thanks.

I know that 70gr of 2F in 50 cal will punch through a Midwestern whitetail between 50 to 90 yards every time. Your loads for 54 cal are more than adequate. Good luck !

.530 round ball and a tight patch with mink oil, I shoot 90 grains Schuetzen 2F out of my 54 by volume, never weighed it. Could be 85 could be 95, might be farther off than that but I can't say, but I shoot 90 by volume to kill paper targets, deer, elk or whatever needs shot. It shoots to point of aim and shoots tight groups therefor it is the load for that rifle. I haven't and won't spend the time to figure out a lighter load for that rifle. It shoots too well to do anything different, and it's heavy enough to do anything you need to do with a 54.

I use Schuetzen too. Always by volume. I don't even own a scale. It's all Graf's had. I got some RWS caps too.

We think the same. 90 gr is a good load. I won't shoot far with my vision.

Besides, sneaking in close is fun. :)
90 grains of 3F BP is maximum load for my GPR. I'm happy with it.

If you're happy with 90 grains for elk I wouldn't change a thing for deer. That's also my planned load for whitetail.

Accuracy is key.

I shoot 90 3f scheutzen in my 54 rebored tc Hawken AND In my GPR. However the GPR carries a gm 1:70 barrel.

The only elk I killed with the original gpr barrel was 110 gr goex 2f.

Both the 54s shoot very well that load and makes for two rifles available and one bag for both.

No special load for deer unless elk not on the menu and carrying a 50. Then it's 70 grains.

Indeed. 110 grains of 2F is equal to 90 grains of 3F. And like you stated, its a good load for at least the .54 GPR. I certainly will not be downloading and/or changing a thing for deer, bear or elk if I were to use my GPR.
